You’ll probably know that…
In an email last month, I called the top of this interest rate cycle.
To my surprise, unfortunately rates have risen again!
So, where along the line, did we go wrong?
Well…
At the time, banks were expecting a hold, and the top property minds in the industry seemed to agree that the RBA couldn’t possibly choose to raise rates again.
Now, with the advantages of hindsight…
Think about what happened when we paused the increases the month prior.
– The economy started to fire up again
– The news began to express positive sentiment
– And in some areas, house prices were already recovering.
So to put it simply: interest rates are the RBA’s lever on controlling how much we spend.
As long as the psychology of Australians is still in the mind frame to spend money,
The RBA will continue to increase rates to prevent economic activity causing further inflation.
Now, I know all this can seem confusing…
